My review: The Graveyard Book - Katinka Ishwara -

Image
The Graveyard Book, written by Neil Gaiman, was probably one of the most sinister and darkest books I read. I have both positive and critical views towards this book. Overall, it was one of the most very interesting books I got to read with complex characters living in the story and captured my attention almost immediately. I like the cover though - Katinka Ishwara                                               The Graveyard book takes place when a young child, Bod Owens, a normal boy, was born. But he would be as normal as all people if he was not raised by paranormal spirits and grew up in the graveyard. Throughout his whole life, Bod lived in hiding. He was protected by inhuman entities for his own safety from the man Jack. The killer, that has already murdered Bod's entire family, is now looking for the child to finish what he started. Bod's curi...

Character Analysis II: The Graveyard Book

Character Analysis: Graveyard Book Liza Hempstock, Abanazer Bolger, and Tom Hustings *** Chapter 4: The Witches' Head Stone LIZA HEMPSTOCK:        Liza was a ghost in the story who was regarded as a witch in her time. She experienced traumatic events that even led to her death. She was drowned, killed, and in her death, she cursed her murderers with her last breath. She did nothing to a single soul in her life and was clueless. Why did she deserve this? She pleaded that she never did anything. But the suspicion of other people towards her murdered her. Liza now lies in the graveyard where Bod Owens lives. Bod and her met and formed a friendship. With so many people being so cruel to her, she was touched with Bod's determined spirit to take his time with her. She got what she needed in her afterlife, something that she will never experience in her time as a living soul. In my perspective and thoughts, Liza Hempstock is a misunderstood and unique character with so much...

Personal Connections: CHAPTER 3, Graveyard Book

Personal Connections CHAPTER 3 Part: Silas Is Leaving      In chapter 3, there is a certain part where Bod's guardian, Silas, takes his leave from the graveyard. When Bod knew about this for the first few weeks, he was only upset. But when Silas confirmed that he would be officially leaving the graveyard, Bod wasn't only upset anymore. Oh no. He was very furious. He questioned Silas so much about his leave and was trying to convince him to stay since he was the only person or ghoul who made Bod feel guarded and protected in the graveyard. But now that Silas decides to abandon that role. As a result, Bod felt a sting of betrayal because Silas promised all the ghouls and Bod's deceased parents to take care of him.  ***      I can personally relate to this because knowing that people who has dedicated their life for you or at least you and that certain person had shared many memories together decides to leave or forget about those things can be both...

Questions & Reflections -Graveyard Book-

QUESTIONS & REFLECTIONS *** KATINKA CHAPTER: 1  There were actually so many questions and confusions that popped in my mind as I was reading the Graveyard Book. And in this blog, I will share a couple of them that intrigued me. First of all, I was very confused why the man Jack was so desperate to murder Bod. It shows he was very angry and frustrated when he didn't get the chance to kill him. What was his motive? Did he have a reason to do this and was there a purpose? Or was he simply doing this for fun? That thought stayed in my mind for a while.  There was the baby, Nobody. He was, most likely in the story, Bod. When Mr & Mrs. Owens found Bod and kept him for a while, she, Silas, Mother Slaughter, and Caius Pompeius were thinking of naming the baby. Then Mrs. Owens said that he looked like nobody but himself. "He looks like nobody but himself," said Mrs. Owens, firmly. "He looks like Nobody". Then Silas said; "Then Nobody it is. Nobody Owens...

Character Analysis I: The Graveyard Book

The Graveyard Book By Neil Gaiman CHARACTER ANALYSIS CHAPTER 1 The Character's Actions The man Jack was possibly the villain of the story since it relates with the title, The Graveyard Book, which is clearly an association to death. Because in the first chapter, he killed a baby's family, which makes him a killer and shows that he has caused death.  My thoughts I like the fact he is mysterious and questionable. He seems to have a very interesting character. However, I dislike him for his unforgivable actions and the fact that he gained satisfaction after he killed a family. Jack's actions are sinister and dark which adds more point and development to his very mysterious and dark personality. It looked obvious he showed no mercy after he killed the family. In my perspective, it looks as if he thought his actions that he just did was what he was born to do. He looked very eager and satisfied to do it. Jack said he was a professional. A professional for murdering people. M o...
