Personal Connections: CHAPTER 3, Graveyard Book
Personal Connections
CHAPTER 3
Part: Silas Is Leaving
In chapter 3, there is a certain part where Bod's guardian, Silas, takes his leave from the graveyard. When Bod knew about this for the first few weeks, he was only upset. But when Silas confirmed that he would be officially leaving the graveyard, Bod wasn't only upset anymore. Oh no. He was very furious. He questioned Silas so much about his leave and was trying to convince him to stay since he was the only person or ghoul who made Bod feel guarded and protected in the graveyard. But now that Silas decides to abandon that role. As a result, Bod felt a sting of betrayal because Silas promised all the ghouls and Bod's deceased parents to take care of him.
***
I can personally relate to this because knowing that people who has dedicated their life for you or at least you and that certain person had shared many memories together decides to leave or forget about those things can be bothering at times. In some times, people you spend your time with, who have been in a relationship with you for many years, decides to stop recalling those memories. Or maybe just not speak of it at all. This can be misleading because maybe people won't really leave you or forget about their time with you but they end up not speaking of it at all or just stay quite distant. That happens. At times, people would want to come and go. I personally experienced this many times with old friends. People have their decision to spend their time with you, or prefer to take a break, find space, and stay distant.
